My wife baked some amazing brownies and then to compliment it I picked up some Ben & Jerry’s Cake Batter ice cream. It is those simple things in life that really make you happy. I also cleaned my truck today and something from my high school driving class popped back into my mind. It was one of those videos which are so cheesy but it talked about having a clean car helped a driver’s morale and improved the overall experience of driving. With the weather being somewhat warm I pulled out the detailing tools and got to scubbing. Sure enough later when I ran out to do an errand I did feel a bit of joy driving with the sky perfectly reflecting off the hood of my truck.

Happiness comes all sorts of ways. Often people seek to find it in material possessions or in temporal things. This mindset is that of a child getting one toy till he tires of it and then demanding another. Joy can’t be found on that style. True happiness comes in simple pleasures that have no corporeal value. The sun gleaming off my truck in such a way that the reflection blends into the sky is what gave me joy. The image of a seedling just pushing out of the surface reaching for the sun also brings a smile to my face. Also bizarre things like streaming data from RSS feeds or Tweets lets me know the world is alive and publishing content and providing more information out to the world. Alive. Through a stream of 1′s and 0′s I know the world is alive and I am a living node in this international network. Happy.
