This was just a quick shot taken with my phone that was beautiful. Just amazed how well the Retro Camera app works and the quality of the images.
Simply awesome

I have to say I do find myself using my iPod touch more for gaming than I do for music. I would like one of these just to play around on.

Tech Talk Guys
Jul 27th
I am excited to say that my friend Bill and I revived our podcast Tech Talk Guys. We have this unfortunate pattern of posting and then having to take a LONG hiatus before we post again. Funny enough I realize that it tends to create almost a time capsule of tech news. I remember when we first reported the hints of the iPhone in iTunes 7 back in 2006. Now we are on the 4th generation of the iPhone and it’s operating system. The iPad is fast trailing and entirely new sector of the computer industry. Either way that is the topic of our latest podcast and we will definitely visit it again and again. Check it out and all our previous ‘casts to get a view of where we have come from to where we are now.
Facebook = 1984
Jul 22nd
I quickly was shaken from the stupor of trusting Facebook again because of this blatant Orwellian like control of my post. I wanted to share a comment about Facebook’s openness and how whistle blower site Youropenbook.org shows the sheer degree of openness of user settings. I understand that users have the power to control their settings and they should make them more private. And yes they do need to be educated on the concepts of web related content and that just because there is a login does not mean its private. In particular was this article of a young educator not getting her teaching license because of images that were posted and public on Myspace (yet another ball of sticky wax).
I think I really need to do an in depth study and relate all the information back so that my friends and family that don’t know can know. This last straw of blocking me from posting whatever I want, including links that show the weaknesses of Facebook, is really bothering me and the way Facebook operates. Down with Zuck and his creepy mission statements!
Nineteen Eighty-Four (sometimes written 1984) is a 1949 dystopian novel by George Orwell about the totalitarian regime of the Party. The novel depicts an oligarchical collectivist society where life in the Oceanian province of Airstrip One is a world of perpetual war, pervasive government surveillance, and incessant public mind control.
Preparation

Some things are coming together that will change the format of this site as well as Talaiver.com. I have a few ideas for what I would like to create and develop but I am not sure of what it will look like. I have a long weekend coming up with July 4th around the corner. So I might take advantage of that time to work on this new development.
Mobile posts make the difference
Jun 12th

Now that I have what was heralded as a super phone by engadget, I love to make mobile updates on my different social media outlets. I then saw that WordPress has ported the similar iphone app over for android. I say all that to imply that I might do more mobile posting and musings from this HTC EVO.

After an embarrassing bout with the blogosphere and some serious hatred about their tactics, Facebook finally answered the call for a better privacy system.
Amid the story of Mark Zuckerberg having some choice words for the initial Facebook users at Harvard and their trust of his service, a large number of techluminaries started to evac Facebook with a quickness. Leo Laporte and Jason Calacanis both quit Facebook, though admittedly Jason’s way of of Ustreaming it live was quite interesting.
I was seriously considering the change and looking over what I needed to do. I was on the verge of just outright deletion. When I considered even just the time that I would get back from not having to check all the status updates and photos and comments, I just realize that my productivity would go up. However after some cajoling from friends and family about that disconnect, I decided instead to just restrict as much of my information from Facebook friends and from public records as possible. Especially after I saw Youropenbook.org I was stupefied that so many peopled posted so freely about taking drugs or any other illicit thing. I then realized that people have a skewed view of privacy thanks to Facebook. They think that because it has a login it must be secure, that because I just have my friends on the site then only my friends will see my posts. I will say that “walled garden” gives an illusion to the users but it just that, an illusion.
Either way for all my Facebook friends I will stick around, BUT I am not going to be posting any more photos, videos, or other updates. I will stick to my blog right here, my picasaweb for photos, and of course Twitter as always for my microblogging needs.
After this last link posts on Facebook I will remove my Twitter integration and my Facebook will go silent.
Thank you and goodnight.
HTC EVO 4G
Apr 23rd
Oops is that my fanboy showing…
The HTC Supersonic I was hoping would come to Sprint has been revealed instead as the HTC EVO 4G. I realize this is a little old as the debut of this superphone was at CTIA. I just haven’t had a chance to blog yet. Now though I have a great reason to post. Sprint Premier, a service for its loyal customers, has just released a contest to win that Sprint EVO 4g BEFORE it gets released to the world. Now I am definitely an HTC, Sprint, and Google fanboy so when this superphone opportunity came out with the trifecta of all those great services I had to try. Either way just for fun I thought I would post my entry. I usually never try for contests so this was a stretch for me.
If you were to look up HTC fanboy in the dictionary or Wikipedia you would find my picture/twitterfeed/facebook. Simply put I fell in love with HTC devices a LONG time ago and have been that way ever since (evidence can be found here http://twitpic.com/nrmxz). I praise and rave about HTC to all my friends. Beyond that I have also been a Sprint customer for over a decade. As long as I was allowed to have a phone my number has been with Sprint.
As the smartphone market developed I stuck with the tried and true Windows mobile platform for its flexibility and integration with my online world. Then Android came and my world was rocked!! Because in the same way that I love HTC and Sprint… Google is my next love. I have been a loyal Gmail user since its early beta days (which went on for years) and then Google Voice when it was first Grand Central.
Needless to say the Android platform married with HTC hardware immediately had me smitten. My wife needed an upgrade so I got her a Hero to test the waters out. Now she can barely use it if I am around cause I am always messing with it. Finally I discovered the online community that created a linux bootstrap to then launch Android 2.0 off my SD card. That has satiated my need for the time being by allowing my WinMo Touch Pro to run Android as a dual boot, but the CTIA came…
EVO 4G… This I must have… You are reading the entry of a man who traveled literally 50 miles to three different Best Buy’s to purchase the Touch Pro when it first came out at full price because I was not due for an upgrade… I want, nay I need that EVO 4G.
I already tried to coax my local sprint rep to do whatever he could to help me out in my pursuit… I will gladly blog, tweet, facebook, and exploit any other social media channel necessary to secure my victory.
I do not want to keep on going but take a bit and check out my blog www.digitalruck.us, twitter @jtalaiver, tumblr jtalaiver.tumblr.com, or facebook.com/joetalaiver
Palm for sale
Apr 12th
Just read an article on engadet that stated Palm was looking for a chance to sell. This could lead to a very interesting development as the folks over at HTC had been looking at I seriously. Could be a neat development as Palm brings a beautiful collection of Patents with it and of course the design and bank account of HTC makes for an interesting genetic mix for a new breed of phones. We will just have to wait for the development.
I will update later with links.
