Fortified Friday

I just wanted to fortify everyone’s Friday with some quality music. For this first entry I decided to go with the classic. Puccini’s Nessun Dorma is one of those classics that everyone knows but doesn’t. They hear it from the stages of Britain’s Got Talent or from commercials, but never know what it is called. Similar to Carmina Burana by Orff and how the most well known movement “O Fortuna” has been used for any epic entrance or charge. Many songs fall into this canon where they are all known by hearing but not the original composer or even their name. The Girl from Ipanema is yet another one of these beautiful known unknowns (sadly it is best known as the chincy elevator music).

My Dad Loves Plants

I grew up with a dad who constantly had plants around and tended to them constantly. In the heat special care was given to hydrate them. Then the cold would come and the plants would be carefully moved inside or into custom hotboxes to keep them warm over the frigid Virginian weather. He still tends to a beautiful garden and a very enviable yard in general. I however slowly grew to dislike plants because of the amount of work that they would force upon me. Sadly this also meant that I lost an appreciation for this elegant life form that covers our earth and is a key part of life.

Now that I have “grown up” I find myself really enjoying the green companions I have on my porch and in my house. Also I am suddenly planning for a vegetable garden my back yard and for some flowering plants to be arranged around my back patio. It is an amazing thing to see this totally different life form grow dependent on the care I provide. It is different than a pet where I can see it emote and act out when it needs care. Plants are indifferent to the humans around them yet at times are precious enough that they would not exist without those humans.

I have to say I do find myself using my iPod touch more for gaming than I do for music. I would like one of these just to play around on.

Tech Talk Guys

I am excited to say that my friend Bill and I revived our podcast Tech Talk Guys. We have this unfortunate pattern of posting and then having to take a LONG hiatus before we post again. Funny enough I realize that it tends to create almost a time capsule of tech news. I remember when we first reported the hints of the iPhone in iTunes 7 back in 2006. Now we are on the 4th generation of the iPhone and it’s operating system. The iPad is fast trailing and entirely new sector of the computer industry. Either way that is the topic of our latest podcast and we will definitely visit it again and again. Check it out and all our previous ‘casts to get a view of where we have come from to where we are now.

Facebook = 1984

I quickly was shaken from the stupor of trusting Facebook again because of this blatant Orwellian like control of my post. I wanted to share a comment about Facebook’s openness and how whistle blower site Youropenbook.org shows the sheer degree of openness of user settings. I understand that users have the power to control their settings and they should make them more private. And yes they do need to be educated on the concepts of web related content and that just because there is a login does not mean its private. In particular was this article of a young educator not getting her teaching license because of images that were posted and public on Myspace (yet another ball of sticky wax).

I think I really need to do an in depth study and relate all the information back so that my friends and family that don’t know can know. This last straw of blocking me from posting whatever I want, including links that show the weaknesses of Facebook, is really bothering me and the way Facebook operates. Down with Zuck and his creepy mission statements!

Preparation

Some things are coming together that will change the format of this site as well as Talaiver.com. I have a few ideas for what I would like to create and develop but I am not sure of what it will look like. I have a long weekend coming up with July 4th around the corner. So I might take advantage of that time to work on this new development.

Now that I have what was heralded as a super phone by engadget, I love to make mobile updates on my different social media outlets. I then saw that WordPress has ported the similar iphone app over for android. I say all that to imply that I might do more mobile posting and musings from this HTC EVO.
